The Project Overview
Groundwater flooding poses a significant risk for many communities throughout the UK.
Project Groundwater is dedicated to addressing this issue, working closely with local authorities, environmental bodies, and community organisations, the project was focused on developing practical solutions that strengthened users knowledge on the subject and boosted resilience to groundwater flooding.

The Challenges
1
Delayed, Inaccurate Alerting Systems
Existing flood warning systems were not providing sufficient or timely notifications
2
Lack of Community Driven Content
Without a clear action plan guideline in place, communities were struggling
3
Data Pain Points and Proper Integration

My Role
Adapt concepts and turn them into interface designs
Understand the needs for users accessing complex data and make it manageable and understandable
Anticipate and design for the complexity of map UI, creating a evolutionary product to iterate as more data became available
Heading up regular design build reviews to ensure the build didn't drift from the signed off designs, and accessibility / usability was consistently being addressed
Define
The Solution
Create a platform that empowers communities with timely insight and practical tools to act before crises unfold.
Design
The Foundations
Although Project Groundwater already had a website, this was a brand new platform we were designing for them, meaning a bespoke design system was set up to accommodate for all these exciting new features.

A Seamless Sign Up Flow
I went through a few different variations of how I wanted to make the sign up flow work, the forefront of my thought process was how do I make it as easy as possible even with some complex hoops to jump through.
The challenged was that users needed to verify their email address and their phone number before they could sign up for alerts.
With this in mind, I outlined the flow below:
Step 1
User inputs their Email Address and Phone number, with clear instructions on how to do it - they're then given the option to "Verify" both
Step 2
Users enter the code sent via email or SMS, guided by clear instructions and a visual "Awaiting Verification" prompt, then tap the "Verify" button to proceed.
Step 3
Once both stages have been verified, they can accept the T&C's, and hit the sign up button to successfully subscribe to Groundwater Flooding Alerts, simple.
